Maude Sandham works as a physical theatre maker, director, and actress in Johannesburg, South Africa. Sandham studied directing and physical performance at Rhodes University (2010 - 2013) and devising theatre and performance at The London International School of Performing Arts in Berlin (2016). She has created over 15 original works for the stage, including Eidos (2015), Actress & Girl (2015) Ingrid (2016), Amantombazane! (2016), and the Naledi Award nominated Ntombi (2016). Sandham is passionate about auto-ethnographic storytelling, clowning, mask performance, climate focused work, and big joyous public performances. She has recently returned to work in South Africa after traveling with Les Balladins Circus Project, using circus and clowning to engage with refugees and migrants in France & Belgium. If you don’t find her in the rehearsal room, you might find her in a classroom, hosting a party, cooking vegetarian food, or dancing outrageously in public.
